Hero Austria, well, was the hero University of Perpetual Help System DALTA needed in outlasting Far Eastern University, taking a 21-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 15-6 victory in both squads’ debuts in the 2022 V-League Collegiate Challenge Group B, Friday evening at the Paco Arena Sports and Events Center in Manila.
Austria, a sophomore, scored eight of his 19 points, including the match-winning kill, in the fifth and deciding set where the Altas dominated the Tamaraws.
He also ended with 20 excellent receptions and five digs.
“Una, pasalamat kami sa nag-organize nito kasi we’ve been out for two to three years because of the pandemic,” head coach Sammy Acaylar said of this win.
He is also grateful that his team captain Louie Ramirez was back in the fold to help the team after the outside hitter’s stint with Cignal in the Spikers’ Turf.
Acaylar said, “Ngayon lang sya ulit naglaro sa amin. So na-boost yung morale ng mga kasamahan niya.”
Ramirez ended with 20 markers on 18 spikes and two service aces.

The Altas will face University of the Philippines on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Tamaraws will take on San Beda University, also on Sunday at 10 a.m. Both matches will still be at the Paco Arena.
