UST’s Rondina-Barbon, NU’s Orillaneda-Landicho blaze to 3-0 starts

Three-peat seeking University of Santo Tomas Tigresses Sisi Rondina and Babylove Barbon and National University Lady Bulldogs rookies Klymince Orillaneda and Antonette Landicho ended Day 2 of the UAAP Season 81 Beach Volleyball tournament on top of the standings at the Sands SM By the Bay.

Rondina and Barbon started the day with a quick win over Ateneo’s Ponggay Gaston and Jules Samonte (21-9, 21-15) before stumping La Salle’s erstwhile undefeated Michelle Morente and Tin Tiamzon (21-14, 21-14)

Playing in her final year, Rondina still sees plenty of room for improvement between her and Barbon.

“Siyempre, marami pang kailangan i-polish kasi ‘di pa kami magkatugma talaga eh,” thought the Cebuana. “Ang maganda sa kanya is nagdadala rin siya ng team. Ayun, polish lang and stick lang kami sa goal namin.”

Landicho and Orillaneda dumped the University of the Philippines’ Isa Molde and Justine Dorog (21-19, 21-10) in the morning before ending their day with a convincing sweep of the University of the East’s Shean Ritual and Rhea Manalo (21-16, 21-15).

The Lady Maroons turned their fortunes around in the afternoon, beating the Far Eastern University’s Marianne Calinawan and Ivana Agudo (21- 18, 21-11). FEU claimed their first win of the tournament in the morning with a win over UE (21-15, 21-13).

Ateneo also got their first win at Adamson U’s Hannah Infante and Graycel Ave (21-14, 21-14).

Action resumes on Friday morning at the same venue.
