UST’s Dela Noche, Iraya to compete in Asian U19, U21 beach volley

Young sand spikers Jay Rack Dela Noche and Alexander Iraya will be the duo representing the country in the upcoming 3rd Asian Under-19 and 4th Asian Under-21 Beach Volleyball Championships.

The U19 tournament takes place from July 3-6 in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand — the same venue where the AVC Continental Cup Final took place last week.

On the other hand, the U21 meet takes place on July 12-15 in the same venue.

Seeded eighth in the 13-team men’s competition, the Philippines was drawn in Pool A with top seed Thailand-1 and No. 9 Iran-2.

Dela Noche and Iraya are two of the finest sand spikers the country has right now.

Back in the UAAP Season 82 High School Boys’ tournament, they led UST to a 6-0 slate. They then saw the tournament called off to a halt due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The two Tiger Cubs left the country on Monday afternoon with Philippine National Volleyball Federation board member Carmela Gamboa. Sending them off are Beach Volleyball Commission’s Charo Soriano and Dzi Gervacio.

Both tournaments are qualifiers for their respective FIVB World Championships.

This will be the first time the country competes in those meets.
