University of Santo Tomas took the solo lead in the UAAP Season 82 Girls’ High School Beach Volleyball Tournament, Sunday at Sands SM By The Bay.

Vanessa Bangayan and Jullana Carreon of the Junior Tigresses topped University of the East’s Chris Ann Susbilla and Dea Villamor, 19-21, 21-7, 15-7, and Ateneo’s Celina Vergeire and Ady Lasala, 21-15, 21-16, to stay perfect in the season.

On the other hand, Nazareth School of National University opened its girls’ campaign with two straight victories to make a statement on its title aspirations.

Kathrina Epa and Chantal Rodriguez scored a 21-14, 21-15 win over Far Eastern University-Diliman’s Nikka Medina and Alexandra Juangco before returning in the afternoon with a 21-8, 21-18 romp of Adamson University’s Mary Grace Borromeo and Ayesha Juegos.

De La Salle-Zobel’s Aira Jaboneta and Gerzel Petallo fashioned out a 22-20, 18-21, 15-12 win over UE’s Susbilla and Villamor. The Junior Lady Spikers rose to 1-1 along with the Baby Tamaraws.

The Baby Lady Falcons, who fell in a tie with the Junior Lady Warriors at 1-2, didn’t come home empty-handed as they prevailed over the Lady Eaglets, 21-13, 21-11, in the girls’ morning session.

Action will resume on Saturday at 8 a.m. with eight boys and three girls matches.
