UST Tiger Softbelles romp Ateneo as Charlotte Sales gains HR lead

Coming off a pulsating win over the UP Lady Maroons last Monday, the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Softbelles made sure that there would be no heroics needed this time, blasting the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 7-0, in an abb. 5th win, Wednesday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

With the win, the Tiger Softbelles go up to 6-4, maintaining a full game edge over the idle UP Lady Maroons (5-5) for the last Final Four slot.

For UST head coach Sandy Barredo, he is glad that his offense has picked up during their two-game winning streak that started with a 12-11 thrilling victory over UP last Monday.

Instigating UST’s bombardment of Ateneo was Charlotte Sales. The slugger knocked off two home runs in the contest – a solo home run in the first inning and a two-run homer in the fourth inning. The third baseman now leads the home run race with a total of three.

Joining the party is Lea Guevarra, who knocked off a home run of her own during the second inning.

Overall, Ateneo’s pitching duo of Kevyn Lacson and Kaira Ventosa gave up 11 hits in the contest.

On the other end, UST’s rookie pitcher Celyn Otare allowed just four hits in five innings pitched, including two strikeouts.

UST will next face the NU Lady Bulldogs on Saturday, March 16 at 1:00pm. On the other hand, Ateneo play their final game of the season on the same day against UP at 9:00am.
