Gilas Pilipinas assistant coach Jong Uichico had to undergo emergency angioplasty on Saturday evening.
The 59-year-old is currently recovering and is said to be in stable condition.
According to accounts, Uichico was at his home and just finished exercising when he experienced tightness in his chest.
In his own power, he was able to drive himself to Medical City in Pasig wherein he was diagnosed with a mild heart attack.
Uichico, along with his fellow Gilas assistant coaches, was tasked to head Gilas Pilipinas’ individual practices at the Moro Lorenzo Gym in Quezon City as program director Tab Baldwin is in the States.
Uichico is a nine-time PBA champion coach, a two-time PBA Coach of the Year, and is the head of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas’ Coaches Academy.
