Both the boys and girls squads of the University of the Santo Tomas zoomed to the top of the standings of UAAP Season 82 High School Table Tennis Tournament, Sunday at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.
The Junior Tiger Paddlers had to fend of De La Salle Zobel in the deciding singles match during the morning session. Gerard Dayahan outlasted Earnst Salloman in four sets with the final game ending at 13-11 for his squad’s second win.
UST then made quick work of Ateneo High School to complete the sweep of day’s assignments and the 3-0 win-loss record.
Defending champions University of the East also stayed perfect after dominating both Adamson University and University of the Philippines, 3-1 and 3-0, respectively.
National University-Nazareth School had to survive Day One leader Adamson University to keep in step with the league-leaders, 3-2, to end the day at 2-1. The Baby Falcons slipped to 2-2.
On the other hand, the Junior Tigress Paddlers kept their unblemished record at 3-0 after taking down the Junior Lady Maroons in four matches in their lone tie for today.
Louese Allavado had to shake off Ashley Turqueza in the first two sets of the third singles match at 12-10 and 11-9, before dominating the third set at 11-5.
La Salle-Zobel completed their first round with a 3-2 win over the defending champion UE in the rematch of last year’s finals, before defeating Adamson at 3-1.
The Junior Lady Green Paddlers are just behind UST at 3-1, while the Junior Lady Red Warriors and the Lady Baby Falcons are at 1-2.
