Reigning UAAP Women’s Table Tennis titleholder University of Santo Tomas continued its comeback trail, taking its fourth straight win to stay atop spot the standings, Thursday at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.
The Lady Paddlers from Espana stopped De La Salle University in four matches to end their first round in second place, then completed a rousing sweep of Far Eastern University to reclaim the league lead.
Kate Encarnacion closed the first singles match against Lady Tamaraw Liezl Canada with a huge turnaround after being down 6-10 in the deciding fifth set. The UST senior eventually snagged the frame, 16-14, and the 1-0 lead against FEU.
Earlier, Shaeena Ronquillo swept La Salle’s Caressha Bernaldez to close out the morning at 3-1 in favor of the Tomasinas.
UST finished the day at 7-1, tied at the top with rival La Salle.
La Salle bounced back after completing their elimination round sweep of Ateneo. Go had to take the last two games to deny Carado and the Lady Eagles the top spot at the day’s end.
FEU and University of the East are locked at a tie in fourth place after they split their assignments of the day. The Lady Tamaraws overwhelmed University of the East at 3-1, while the Lady Warriors dominated Adamson University in three matches.
The other tie saw the Lady Maroons stopped National University, 3-1.
