UST Boys’, Girls’ clinch outright UAAP HS Table Tennis Finals berth

University of Santo Tomas clinched an outright Finals berth in the Boys’ division after a 12-0 elimination round campaign in the UAAP Season 82 High School Table Tennis tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym on Monday. 

The Junior Tiger Paddlers fashioned out consecutive 3-0 wins over National University and Ateneo to complete a perfect campaign.

De La Salle-Zobel swept defending champion University of the East, 3-0, in a playoff to secure the twice-to-beat bonus in the step-ladder semifinals. The Junior Green Paddlers and the Junior Warriors ended up level at 8-4 after the double-round elims.

UE settled for the No. 3 spot and will face National University, which eliminated Adamson University in a do-or-die for the last semis slot, 3-2, in the first step-ladder match at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The winner will take on De La Salle-Zobel at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.

The Bullpups and the Baby Falcons ended up with identical 6-6 card in fourth place. NU blew the chance to make it to the semis outright after a 2-3 loss to UE.

The Girls’ championship between unbeaten UST and No. 2 De La Salle-Zobel is set at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
