United City sweep PFL Bubble individual awards as Maranon, Pinthus, Schrock hailed

CARMONA, CAVITE — In the end, it became a championship procession for United City in the 2020 PFL Season sponsored by Qatar Airways.

With four wins out of five matches, 25 goals scored and only three conceded, United City was definitely the standard-bearer of the year.

Not only did it dominate the tournament, but its players also sealed all of the individual awards during the awarding ceremony, Monday night at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

Spanish sensation Bienvenido Maranon was awarded the Golden Boot as recognition for his seven strikes this campaign. More impressively, six came in two-part hat-tricks against Mendiola 1991 and Maharlika Manila.

For the Golden Glove, Anthony Pinthus received the honour after maintaining clean sheets against the Azkals Development Team, Maharlika Manila, and Mendiola.

Lastly, talismanic skipper Stephan Schrock was granted the Golden Ball for his excellent performances in all matches.

“There were many things that came together for this group,” said Schrock.

“We feel like we are a very tight family, helping each other out and looking after each other and that showed with our performances on the pitch.”

After everything else that happened this year — the COVID-19 outbreak, the change in management, and the participation in the bubble tournament, to see the individual brilliance of these three players — was a sight to behold for Filipino football fans.
