The UFC comes to the Philippines for the very first time in Manila on Saturday, the 16th of May at the Mall of Asia Arena. This inaugural event will be headlined by two former champions; the featherweight division’s No. 1 contender, Frankie Edgar, will go head-to-head against Urijah Faber, who makes a long awaited return to 145 lbs. in a five-round battle sure to thrill the Filipino fans.
The fight card is comprised of 12 explosive bouts featuring UFC Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters from around the world including America, England, Belgium, South Korea, Guam, China, Singapore, and homegrown talents from the Philippines, featherweight Mark Eddiva (6-1-0) and flyweight Roldan Sangcha-an. This event will also mark, UFC middleweight, Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Muñoz’s (13-6-0) last professional fight as he brings his well-honed skills to the Octagon on May 16, against British up-and-comer, Luke Barnatt (8-2-0).
Special guest fighters UFC flyweight champion, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (21-2-1), no. 2 ranked UFC bantamweight, Miesha “Cupcake” Tate (16-5-0), UFC bantamweight Bryan “Kid Lightning” Caraway (19-8-0), and UFC heavyweight Alistair “The Reem” Overeem (39-14-0) will be flying in this week to show their support of the event, and will also meet fans at a number of activities throughout Fight Week, including:
Open Workouts – Wednesday 13th of May, 6pm at the Music Hall of the SM Mall of Asia
Ultimate Media Day – Thursday 14th of May, 11.30am, some lucky fans will have the opportunity to attend this media event, and will see the main card fighters speak to media and square off, details on how fans can secure their place are shared on the UFC Facebook Asia page
