UAAP set to introduce 3×3 basketball

A new sport will be played by the country’s premier collegiate league

Season hosts Far Eastern University will bring in 3×3 basketball to the UAAP this season. The announcement was made on Sunday evening after the Lady Tamaraws’ five-set win over the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles, Sunday evening.

“We are going to introduce 3×3 basketball as a demo sport,” declared FEU athletics director Mark Molina.

The tournament will take place on Sunday, March 4, at the SM Mall of Asia Activity Center.

As a demo sport, 3×3 basketball will not count in the General Championship tally.

Though the league has yet to reveal further details about the one-day event, participating schools must field a team of four student-athletes.

There will be a men’s and women’s tournament. The juniors’ division will not be played, as the UAAP tournament for that sport will still be ongoing by that time.

Last season, University of Santo Tomas introduced Ballroom Formation to open the season. It was not carried over this year.
