UAAP Season 87 to kick off with ‘Stronger, Better, Together’ theme

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) is set to launch its 87th season this September, under the unifying theme “Stronger, Better, Together.”

This new slogan was unveiled during the closing ceremony of UAAP Season 86 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday by Bo Perasol, the Director of the Office of Athletics and Sports Development at University of the Philippines, the host school for the upcoming season.

“The UAAP is the country’s premier collegiate league. Its popularity and success have grown exponentially through the years because it continues to grow, evolve, and innovate,” said Perasol.

He emphasized that the league’s forward momentum comes from introducing new sports, expanding divisions within existing sports, and continuously finding new ways to engage with its ever-increasing audiences.

Perasol described the new theme as a rallying call for the league to remain innovative and forward-thinking.

“‘Stronger, Better, Together’ is a reminder that our strength and success come from unity. Our mission is to inspire young athletes to strive for excellence while remembering that we are part of one harmonious family and citizens of one nation. This unity is crucial not just in sports, but in all aspects of life,” he added.

Although the new Season 87 logo was not revealed at the ceremony, Perasol gave a sneak peek into its design concept.

The logo will symbolize unity and cooperation, inspired by the age-old image of hands in a huddle.

“The clenched, fighting fist of the UP team logo will transform into open hands reaching out to each other, representing teamwork and solidarity. As the host, UP extends an invitation to all schools to come together and achieve great things for the league, for sports, and for the nation,” Perasol hinted.

The finalized logo will embody the Season 87 theme, featuring a colorful wheel with each school’s colors prominently displayed, coming together to form one cohesive image, representing one UAAP.

UAAP Season 87 will officially commence on September 7, 2024, promising another exciting year of collegiate sports under the banner of unity and excellence.
