UST overpowers La Salle, stays in Final Four hunt

The University of Santo Tomas Tiger Spikers keep pace in the tight race for a Final Four spot, outlasting the De La Salle University Green Spikers, 25-22, 25-20, 14-25, 25-21, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Tiger Spikers, who had recently ended a five-game slide, clinched their most impressive win of the second round. After flubbing errors consistently throughout the season, the Tiger Spikers limited their giveaways to just 21 against the Green Spikers, who coughed up 29.

“It’s a good sign for us,” said UST head coach Odjie Mamon about their errors. “Matagal na naming problema ‘yun. We really need to keep limiting those. Hopefully, we can stay consistent.”

Joshua Umandal topped the Tiger Spikers with 18 points, while Manuel Medina added 12.

Raymark Woo led the Green Spikers with 20 points while Arjay Onia managed 16.

UST forged a tie with the Adamson Falcons at fourth with similar 5-6 cards. They face the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles (9-2) on April 7 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. La Salle fell to 4-7, and next face the Adamson University Soaring Falcons on April 4 at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
