Tigers Spikers send Red Warriors to eighth loss

Facing a Red Warriors side that had won their first game in more than two years, the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Spikers locked down and quelled the University of the East, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18, Wednesday morning at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

Four Tiger Spikers scorer in double-digits, with Manuel Medina tallying 13 points, and skipper Arnold Bautista, Jerico Jose and Tyrone Carodan each hitting 10 markers apiece.

UST outclassed their opponents in every scoring skill but still surrendered a whopping 37 errors. UE, however, gave up 38.

Still, the Tigers are working on limiting their miscues, which had resulted in them losing the second set.

“Masyadong marami pa kaming errors lalo na sa serve. We’re working on that kasi we can’t keep giving up these many errors if we want to make the Final Four,” said UST head coach Odjie Mamon.

UST remains in the hunt for a Final Four spot with a 4-5 record. They take on defending champs Ateneo Blue Eagles (9-0) on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

UE skipper Edward Camposano topped the Red Warriors with a game-high 18 points but was the only one in double-digits.

The Red Warriors have officially been eliminated from Final Four contention with their 1-8 slate. They also play on Saturday against the University of the Philippines Maroon Spikers (4-4).
