The University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) is opening the door for more student-athletes to showcase their talent by adding more sports to its calendar.
During the press conference of the 82nd season of the league, season hosts Ateneo de Manila University announced the addition of new sporting events both the collegiate and high school divisions.
“Starting this season, 3×3 Basketball will be an official sport. For the high school division, we are adding Boys’ and Girls’ Lawn Tennis as a demo sports and Boys’ and Girls’ Beach Volleyball as medal events,” announced UAAP President Em Fernandez.
For the past two seasons, 3×3 basketball for both men’s and women’s division was a demonstration sport. With the participation of all the member schools in that time, the league has decided to upgrade it to an official sport. This raises the events at the collegiate level to 31.
The Far Eastern University will serve as sub-hosts for this season’s 3×3 basketball tournament, which will take place on March 2020.
On the other hand, lawn tennis and beach volleyball will make its debut in the high school division.
Beach volleyball – which the University of Santo Tomas will sub-host – opens its curtains in January 2020. Meanwhile, lawn tennis – sub-hosted by National University – is scheduled to take place in February 2020.
