UAAP POW Lams Lamina thrives under Sherwin Meneses’ system

Amid the intense battles of UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament, one steady pair of hands has been orchestrating National University’s perfect start — Lams Lamina.

The senior setter has been nothing short of masterful, steering the Lady Bulldogs to an unblemished 3-0 record with her pinpoint playmaking.

Lamina capped off a stellar opening week with 23 excellent sets on Sunday, leading NU to a dramatic five-set comeback victory after trailing two sets to one against the FEU Lady Tamaraws.

Before that, the two-time champion setter dictated NU’s offense with precision, delivering 20 excellent sets in a dominant sweep of rival DLSU Lady Spikers on opening day. She then added 14 more in another straight-sets rout of the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

Her standout performances earned her the first Collegiate Press Corps (CPC) UAAP Player of the Week honor, presented by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for February 15 to 23 in the women’s division.

As a setter, Lamina credits new head coach Sherwin Meneses for simplifying the game and instilling confidence in the Lady Bulldogs.

“Sobrang laki ng impact din ni Coach Sherwin [Meneses] kasi nabibigyan kami ng confidence every training and every game,” she said.

Despite her stellar performances, Lamina remains focused on improving her playmaking skills to further NU’s cause.

“Nandito pa lang naman ako [sa baba], ‘yung iba nasa taas na pero kailangan humble lang tayo.”

She edged out teammates Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon, Adamson’s super rookie Shaira Nitura, UP stalwart Joan Monares, and UST’s dynamo Angge Poyos for the citation supported by minor sponsors Discovery Suites and World Balance.
