UAAP pays tribute to Yanyan Lariba

Immense grief could be felt inside the Coral Way Entrance of the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Monday.

One of the league’s all-time greats, Yanyan Lariba, had just passed away earlier.

Before the press conference of the 81st season of the UAAP began, the league made sure to celebrate the life and career of Lariba.

“We all know that Yanyan is a multiple-time UAAP champion. We all know that she was undefeated in her UAAP career. We all know that Yanyan is a multiple-time MVP and a two-time Athlete of the Year. But before that, she was a student first and she was a consistent dean’s listers in La Salle,” UAAP executive director Rebo Saguisag said in behalf of the league.

“Yanyan you will be missed.”

Instead of mourning, the league sees this moment as a celebration – a celebration of her life and the lessons she taught.

“While we mourn her passing, let us also take occasion to celebrate her life, a life that most of us can only dream of.

“But most importantly in her last days, I guess Yanyan reminded us that sport is a platform, a tool that can be used to do good as she spoke about her bout with cancer,” he added.

For their part, De La Salle University is dedicating their campaign to Lariba.

Lariba’s wake will be at St. Peter Memorial Chapel, St. Claire Room, Commonwealth Ave. Corner Tandang Sora St. Brgy. Matandang Balara, Quezon City.

Viewing starting Tuesday, September 4 until Wednesday evening.

“She has passed on the torch to us and we must carry on.”
