UAAP Men’s Football: Lucas Aguilar’s brace lists La Salle past UE

Lucas Aguilar’s brace propelled De La Salle University to a 2-0 victory over University of the East, helping the Green Booters regain their winning form in the UAAP Season 87 Collegiate Men’s Football Tournament on Sunday at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.

The rookie from De La Salle Zobel opened the scoring in the 17th minute and doubled his tally in the 51st.

With this performance, Aguilar has now scored three goals this season for the Green Booters, while goalkeeper Enrico Mangaoang notched his second clean sheet of the campaign.

“The team wanted the three points,” said Green Archers head coach Alvin Ocampo. “We really needed the three points for us to still have a chance to make the Final Four. Given that Ateneo lost today, there will be no stepladder. It will give us more chances to enter.”

In their first-round meeting, the Green Booters and Red Warriors ended in a 1-1 draw last September 19.

Following back-to-back losses to the University of the Philippines and the University of Santo Tomas, La Salle hopes to build on this victory.

They next face archrival Ateneo de Manila University on Thursday at 6:30 PM at the same venue.

La Salle currently holds fifth place with 10 points and a goal difference of minus-3.
