Far Eastern University arrested its two-game slide at the expense of Adamson University, 25-13, 25-22, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.
The Lady Tamaraws, who lost to National University and University of Santo Tomas in their past two matches, returned to .500 with a 3-3 record for solo fourth.
“Yung biggest takeaway namin ay talagang gigil kami makabawi from that dalawang sunod na pagkatalo, yung isa heart-breaking pa. Na-execute naman namin yung pinag-aralan namin, naipakita namin yung mga baon namin,” said FEU head coach Manolo Refugia.
After a crushing 13-25 first set, the Lady Falcons set out their plan for a bounce back, opening the second 12-7 but Faida Bakanke, Jean Asis, and Gerzel Petallo took charge for a commanding 2-0 lead for the Lady Tamaraws, 25-22.
Then it was smooth sailing for FEU, leading 20-13 in the third en route to the sweep in one hour and 24 minutes.
“My performance from before to now is better because the coaches tell me the adjustments I need to make,” said Bakanke, who unleashed 14 points on 13 attacks and a block along with eight digs.
Petallo impressed with an all-around display of 12 points, 10 digs, and 10 excellent receptions, while Chenie Tagaod also had 12 points to go with seven receptions.
FEU will cap its first round games on March 17 against the struggling Ateneo de Manila University at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Ayesha Juegos supplied 10 points as the Lady Falcons dropped to 2-3 for fifth.
Adamson’s next game will be on Wednesday, also against the Blue Eagles, still at the Pasay venue.
