UAAP 86 WFB: Shai del Campo lights up the board with a double as La Salle cruises past UST

Shai del Campo netted a brace, leading De La Salle University’s 5-1 rout of University of Santo Tomas to remain on top of the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Football Tournament table on Saturday at UP Diliman Football Stadium.

Del Campo, who was part of the Philippine Women’s National Football Team that reached the quarterfinals in the 19th Asian Games, put the ball at the back of the net in the 38th and 63rd minutes of the match to extend her personal tally to four goals this season.

TJ Isulat scored La Salle’s first goal in the 26th minute to level the contest whiile Anicka Castañeda’s 51st-minute volley and skipper Bea Delos Reyes’ penalty in the 54th minute made it a resounding win for La Salle.

The Lady Booters continued to top the standings with nine points and a plus-12 goal difference after three matches.

La Salle’s five goals were the perfect response after Dai Logastua gave UST a dream start just six minutes into the contest.

“They were able to bounce back from a slow start,” said coach Alvin Ocampo. “Yung adjustments sa game plus yung confidence with the ball, it happened after that goal.

“It woke them up. We cannot give the opponent a chance to score because it’s really hard to catch up,” he continued.

The only downside for La Salle was that Maria Layacan, its co-top scorer with four goals, picked up a yellow card in the 27th minute.

It was Layacan’s second caution this season after incurring a yellow card against University of the Philippines last week in the 45+1 minute.

This suspends her for La Salle’s final rematch against Far Eastern University which will take place this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on the same pitch.

“There are players than can step up like yung nag first time na nag first 11 ngayon. Right now, we just want to savor the victory and prepare for FEU,” said Ocampo.

On the other hand, UST will try to get its first win of the season on March 23 against Ateneo de Manila University at 6:30 p.m. at the same venue.

UST XI: Gerona, Sy, Lorque, Bennett (C), Logastua, Ramos, Anonuevo, Mosico, Nemenzo, Fernandez, Santerva.

DLSU XI: Gumilao (GK), Delos Reyes, Isulat, Toledo, Maligalig, Layacan, Mendaño, Del Campo, Goñe, Castañeda, Danoso.
