UAAP 85 MVB: La Salle makes quick work of Adamson, rises to solo third

De La Salle University hardly broke a sweat against also-ran Adamson University, 25-17, 25-14, 25-12, to bolster its Final Four bid in the UAAP Season 85 men’s volleyball tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Wednesday.

The Green Spikers won their second straight game to improve to 7-5 in solo third while the Soaring Falcons slid to 1-11 at the bottom.

The win also gave De La Salle a one-game cushion over joint fourth placers Far Eastern University and Ateneo.

“This game challenge ko sa kanila kung ma-control natin yung simula, hindi tayo puwedeng mag-relax kung may gusto tayo mangyari in the future. Very satisfied doon sa naging performance na nakacreate kami ng maraming points sa block at service,” said Green Spikers head coach Arnold Laniog.

Just like the first two sets, De La Salle opened the third frame strong, cruising to a 16-7 lead en route to finishing the match in just 82 minutes.

JM Ronquillo bounced back from a subpar showing against University of the Philippines last time out, leading the Green Spikers with 14 points on eight attacks, four blocks, and two service aces.

Noel Kampton added 11 points, while Josh Rodriguez and Vince Maglinao delivered seven points apiece.

De La Salle dominated all scoring departments, 38-21 in spikes, 12-5 in blocks, and 6-0 in service aces.

On the other hand, there were no Soaring Falcons in double digits as Evander Novillo and Josh Magalaman shared the scoring with seven points apiece.

Adamson will be back on Saturday, playing against fellow cellar-dweller University of the Philippines, while De La Salle squares off against fabled rival Ateneo de Manila University on Sunday.
