UAAP 84: NU crushes FEU in season’s fastest game, takes sixth win


National University obliterated Far Eastern University in three quick sets, 25-10, 25-11, 25-12 to remain spotless in six games in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament, Tuesday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Mhicaela Belen punched in 12 points to go along with nine excellent digs and seven excellent receptions while Ivy Lacsina added 10 points to extend the Lady Bulldogs’ winning streak to six games.

It was total domination from the side of the Lady Bulldogs, who limited the Lady Tamaraws to just 33 points in total. NU also led by more than 10 points in all three sets.

“Sinabihan ko lang naman yung mga players namin na mag laro lang sila nang maayos. Na-execute rin namin yung sa training namin, okay naman nakakuha kami ng panalo,” said NU head coach Karl Dimaculangan after the match that lasted for an hour and 19 minutes.

“Siguro nire-ready na rin namin yung team sa mga mas mahirap siguro na situations so prepared naman lahat ng [players] namin kahit sino naka-ready lang one na tinawag, thankful naman ako kasi nagde-deliver sila,” added Dimaculangan, who fielded in 13 players in the game.

Camilla Lamina, who shared the playmaking chores with Kamille Cal, dished out 14 assists. Alexa Mata and Princess Robles each had nine markers while Alyssa Solomon had six. A total of 11 Lady Bulldogs scored in the fastest match of the season which ran for just an hour and 19 minutes.

On the other hand, Jean Asis and Chen Tagaod led FEU with 15 points each. Shiela Kiseo added three points, 11 excellent receptions, and eight excellent digs as the Lady Tamaraws absorbed their fifth loss in six games to remain at the seventh spot.

FEU also suffered a huge blow in the game after Nikka Medina injured her right knee during the first set.

NU looks to sweep the first round against University of the Philippines on Thursday at 12:00 PM while FEU will take on De La Salle University at 6:00 PM later that day.
