UAAP 84: NU completes women’s 3×3 elims sweep as UST, UP, Ateneo complete semis cast

CALATAGAN, Batangas — Undefeated National University stretched its UAAP Women’s 3×3 winning streak to 18 games to clinch the top spot heading into Season 84 Final Four, Friday at CaSoBe resort here.

The two-time defending champions Lady Bulldogs will face fourth-seeded Ateneo de Manila University in the knockout semifinals later today at 2 pm.

NU easily handled the Blue Eagles, 19-11, before having to dig deep against De La Salle University, 12-10.

“Today, we were not playing our best, to be honest. We were lazy at the ball,” said Lady Bulldog and national team member Camille Clarin. “Going into the semis, we just need to be as aggressive as we were in the first couple of games and the win is ours.”

In the other semis bracket, the second-ranked University of Santo Tomas and the third seed University of the Philippines will clash at 3 pm.

The Growling Tigresses ransacked their way to second seed after two wins on Day 2 against Adamson University, 15-7, and Ateneo, 21-8, finished by Eka Soriano’s two-pointer with 2:51 to go.

The Fighting Maroons, despite losing both to DLSU, 11-12, and Far Eastern University, 10-12, still managed to earn the third seed at 3-3.

Ateneo came out on top of the four-way tie for the fourth seed at 2-4 with a superior quotient over Adamson, FEU, and DLSU. The three schools finished fifth, sixth, and seventh respectively.
