Four weeks after securing the services of former NCAA MVP Noel Kampton, De La Salle University once again nabbed a bright young prospect in two-time UAAP High School Boys’ Volleyball Best Setter Diogenes Poquita.
“Yes po, naka-commit na po ako sa La Salle,” the 19-year-old playmaker told Tiebreaker Times.
Familiarity convinced Poquita to move to Taft.
There, he will join his former National University teammates in Billie Anima, Angel Serrano, Gian De Jesus, Raphael Sumalinog, Gibson Balanong, and Kampton.
He also got the chance to team up with Vince Maglinao and John Mark Ronquillo in the ASEAN School Games, which made La Salle the comfortable choice for the Cebuano.
“Excited na po. Parang dati lang at walang nagbago sa samahan namin. I hope makapaglaro kami together at our best talaga,” said Poquita.
During his five-year stay with the Bullpups, the 5-foot-9 setter became one of the most decorated high school players in the country.
He copped four titles with the powerhouse NU squad, winning it in Seasons 78, 79, 81, and 82. Poquita also had a Palarong Pambansa MVP and Best Setter award in his collection.
Poquita also has international experience, having represented the Philippines twice at the ASEAN School Games.
Now, he looks to forge a new path away from his comfort zone in Jhocson. And Poquita vows to carry over his championship experience and lead the Green Spikers back to the semifinals after missing it for seven times in a row.
