A Team Lakay bet and a Pedro Sauer BJJ Association practitioner will represent the Philippines in The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition.
Lara Pearl Alvarez and Louie Sangalang were named as two of the 16 applicants vying to be ONE Championship Chief Executive Officer Chatri Sityodtong’s apprentice.
Alvarez, a native of Baguio, is an accountant and trains with Team Lakay.
At a young age of 22, Alvarez got pregnant by her then-boyfriend, who abandoned her and their unborn son. Once her child was born, she took on the role of both mother and father and has since raised her baby boy with the help of her family.
On the other hand, Sangalang is a BJJ purple belt under Professor Fernando Salvador.
Besides his jiu-jitsu exploits, Sangalang became the first Filipino cancer survivor to finish the North Pole Marathon in 2018. In the same year, he completed the inaugural Ironman Philippines.
Sangalang has his own procurement consulting firm and is teaching at three universities in Metro Manila.
Completing the cast are Singapore’s Alvin Ang and Joy Koh; United States’ Eugene Chung, Monica Millington, Nazee Sajedi, and Roman Wilson; Russia’s Irina Chadsey; Thailand’s Teirra Kamolvattanavith; Indonesia’s Paulina Purnomowati; Venezuela’s Jessica Ramella; India’s Niraj Puran Rao; Japan’s Sho Takei; New Zealand’s Clinton Tudor; and Germany’s Kexin Ye.
Besides being Sityodtong’s apprentice, the winner will also be awarded a US$250,000 contract.
The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition will premiere across Asia on Thursday, March 18, on AXN, the show’s official Asian broadcast partner, with markets to include Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Vietnam.
