Turkey demolishes Gilas by 35

The Turkish national basketball team dominated Gilas Pilipinas in a tune-up match on Tuesday (Wednesday Manila time), 103-68 at the Abdi Ipekci Arena in Istanbul.

Gilas, which was coming off a nine-day training camp in Karpenisi, Greece, kept it close in the opening period, trailing by only 21-17 but Turkey closed the first period on a 9-2 run to take a 30-19 cushion.

The home side then outscored Gilas 27-13 in the second frame to build a commanding 57-32 lead entering the halftime break.

Turkey’s firepower was too much for the Philippines in the match. Turkey made 15 triples throughout the contest.

Andray Blatche had 23 points to lead the nationals while Jayson Castro added 15 points. Calvin Abueva chipped in eight points.

Gilas will head to Italy for a pocket tournament before returning home to face Turkey anew on July 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena for their final preparation game.

The 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Manila tips off on July 5.
