San Miguel Beermen guard Ronald Tubid will pay a hefty PHP 30,000 fine and serve a two-game suspension after being called for a flagrant foul against Meralco’s Chris Newsome last Sunday, as mandated by the league on Tuesday.
The 12-year veteran was whistled with a flagrant foul penalty two after hitting the Filipino-American forward near the eye, resulting in a narrow cut. Tubid was then disqualified from the game with exactly 9:12 left in the final period.
San Miguel were still able to complete a come-from-behind win to stun Meralco, 99-92, to snap the latter’s four-game winning streak and open their own 2017 Commissioner’s Cup campaign on a high note.
With the consequences Tubid has to face, the 35-year-old will miss the Beermen’s games versus Phoenix Fuel Masters this Friday, April 7, and Star Hotshots on April 16, Easter Sunday.
