For Tots Carlos, Creamline’s huge five-set victory against Petro Gazz is a huge morale booster heading to the quarterfinals of the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.
In their last group phase assignment, the Cool Smashers outlasted the Angels, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10 to seal the top seed in Pool B.
According to Carlos, the chance to build up its momentum entering the playoffs played as the team’s motivation in the five-setter against Petro Gazz.
“Siyempre every game is important lalong lalo na we want to get the championship,” said Carlos on Wednesday night.
“So, every game talaga gusto namin ipanalo so ayun, malaking morale booster ‘to going to the quarterfinals e. So yun siguro yung I think talagang nakakapag-motivate sa team,” she added.
The former UP standout unloaded a season-high 28 points laced with 16 excellent digs and four receptions to lead Creamline’s 3-0 campaign in the pool stage.
Still, despite her explosive outing, Carlos lauded the Angels’ super floor defense which gave the Cool Smashers a very hard time in the match.
“It was a good game kasi nakita mo pinaghandaan talaga kami ng Petro Gazz, makikita mo na lahat ng bola naaangat talaga nila. We really did our best and maganda rin talaga yung pinakita ng kabilang team,” said the ex-Motolite standout.
Carlos and Creamline were on a tear this conference, sweeping the likes of PLDT and BaliPure before eventually gutting out a tight one against Petro Gazz.
And the management’s decision to keep the team intact for this tournament was a pivotal part according to the 2019 PVL Best Opposite Spiker.
“I think malaking tulong yun e kasi yung chemistry nga and yung pagsasama namin ng teammates ko andun na yun. Sa skills hindi rin naman kami nahuhuli,” said the 23-year-old outside hitter.
“So I think yun talaga yung character na lang, ‘pag polish ng basics, yung diskarte nila coach, yung ‘pag sunod namin, yun na lang talaga yung magiging susi nung liga na ‘to.”
