TNT – and surely, Gilas – crosses fingers on Pogoy injury

TNT is hoping that Roger Pogoy didn’t suffer a severe sprain after sitting out the second half of their PBA Governors’ Cup game versus Meralco, Friday.

The star guard hurt his left ankle during the first quarter but still managed to play through it until coaches subbed him out approaching the midway mark of the following frame.

He did not return as he could no longer bear the pain.

He left with just four points and two rebounds – that, after dropping 40 on seven triples in the Tropang Giga’s 138-116 win over Blackwater last Wednesday.

“I don’t know … but from what I see, I think it’s bad enough that he can’t go on, but it’s not that bad that he was able to come back. I’m hoping that it’s not severe,” said head coach Jojo Lastimosa of the two-way specialist.

TNT, though, still managed to get the job done despite missing Pogoy as it came out with a 111-104 win to regain the solo lead at 7-1.

Lastimosa lauded the efforts of the other Tropa such as Mikey Williams in holding the fort for the team despite the injury.

The reigning scoring king finished with 25 points and five rebounds. Moreover, he’s one of the four players who scored in twin digits in the win.

“I still have enough forces left on my bench and Mikey has been a big help, taking that scoring load off Roger. That was huge,” said the cage legend.

“And then, these guys know how to grind it out. Before the game, I told them, we’re coming from back-to-back games and it’s going to be a struggle for them. But thankfully, the guys were ready,” he furthered.

Still, they’re hoping for the best for Pogoy, who’s been averaging 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and a steal this conference.
