Tim Cone looks forward to imparting his knowledge to the local coaches in the Hoop Coaches International Webinar hosted by Blackwater Elite later this week.
The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel mentor will be headlining the four-day event together with Jong Uichico, as well as some of the revered international coaches in the game today.
“I hope I can give some insight to the young coaches out there and maybe give a nugget of new information or idea to even the established coaches,” the PBA’s most accomplished coach said.
Cone will discuss his forte — the Triangle offense — which he feels has become more relevant these days due to The Last Dance, a 10-part documentary about the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls.
The owner of 22 PBA championships will hold his session on the last day of the webinar on Saturday, May 2.
“I will speak on what we’ve done to expand on the Triangle offense, which is probably relevant since everyone is watching The Last Dance of the Bulls, who ran the Tex Winter Triangle.”
Coach Ariel Vanguardia, the organizer of the webinar, feels extremely thrilled to have Cone on board the project.
“Every time kasi na nagre-register ang coaches, there’s a question na which coach would they want to see. And most of them say Tim Cone. So I’m glad that he’s now part of this,” he said.
Cone, on the other hand, feels honored to be part of the webinar made to give coaches an opportunity to learn while the world remains at a standstill due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“I’m honored to be included and have a chance to teach the game,” said the three-time PBA Coach of the Year.
This is now the second leg of the webinar. The first edition, held over the weekend, was a resounding success — and Vanguardia shared that there was clamor among attendees for more.
“Due to the clamor of the coaches, we decided to host another set of webinars from April 29 to May 2,” he said.
Also speaking in the upcoming webinar are Czech Republic national team head coach Ronen Ginzburg and Radovan Trifunovic, the chief bench strategist of the Slovenian national team.
New Zealand junior national team head coach Hernando Planells, Japan assistant coach Herman Mondale, and Serbia assistant coach Bogdan Karaicic will take part in the sessions, too.
Completing the cast of speakers are Morehead State head coach Preston Spadlin and Diovanni Rivera, the director of basketball operations of Libertadores de Queretato in Mexico’s LNBP.
