Thailand overwhelms Pinay5 with 7-0 rout in ASEAN Futsal Championship

The Philippine Women’s National Futsal Team suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat to Thailand in the 2024 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship on Sunday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Facing the world’s sixth-ranked team, the Pinay5 struggled to find their rhythm throughout the match.

Sangrawee Meekham opened the scoring for Thailand, while Sawitree Mamyalee doubled the lead shortly after. Paerploy Huajaipetch and Darika Peanpailun then added the third and fourth goals, giving the visitors a commanding 4-0 advantage by halftime.

The second half saw no letup from the Thais. Lalida Chimpabut extended the lead with a header, Meekham secured her brace, and Nattamon Artkla completed the rout with a clinical finish.

Despite their best efforts, the likes of Lyka Teves and team captain Isabella Bandoja were unable to convert their chances into goals for the Philippines.

With the win, Thailand tops the group with six points from two consecutive victories. Meanwhile, the Philippines sits fourth in the standings with one point, earned from a 2-2 draw against Myanmar in their opening match.

The Pinay5 will look to bounce back against Vietnam on Tuesday, while Thailand is set to face Myanmar tomorrow. Both games will take place at the Philsports Arena at 7 p.m.

In the earlier match, Vietnam cruised to a 5-2 victory over Myanmar, securing their first win of the tournament.
