Terrence Romeo glad to finally regain form after series of injuries

Terrence Romeo couldn’t feel any happier now that he’s regaining form after recovering from an injury he suffered in their PBA season debut last July.

The 29-year-old played his second game back Wednesday, scoring 16 points on a 47-percent clip from the field. And he helped the Beermen hand rivals TNT its first loss of the 2021 Honda Philippine Cup through a dominant 83-67 victory.

“Unang-una, nagpapasalamat ako kay God, kasi short lang ‘yung time na maka-recover ako. Rapos nabe-bless ako na makabalik slowly sa dati kong game,” he said moments after the match the DHVSU Gym in Pampanga.

“Thankful ako sa mga teammates ko na masaya na nakabalik ulit ako,” added the flashy combo guard.

Romeo also collected four rebounds, four assists, and a block in the 37 minutes and 29 seconds he saw action.

Also elated to see him play in such a way was SMB head coach Leo Austria.

“I would also like to congratulate Terrence dahil ito ‘yung first win niya dito sa season na ‘to, kasi ‘yung mga panalo wala siya because of his injury.

“But I’m happy for him, dahil bumalik siya. Alam naman natin he could score a lot and he could help the team a lot,” said the decorated mentor.

Seeing Romeo slowly come back to his usual ways is definitely a welcome sight, especially after what he had been through.

The hyperextended knee he sustained last July 18 versus Meralco was the second time in 11 months that the eight-year pro got hurt.

Previously, he dislocated his shoulder versus the Tropang Giga in the 2021 Philippine Cup last October. That proved to be the end of the season for him, as he left the Clark bubble the following day.

“Last bubble hindi ako nakapaglaro, isa’t kalahati lang ‘yung game ko. Tapos, ngayon naman, hindi ko pa natapos ‘yung isang laro,” he recalled.

As tough as it was, though, the former Far Eastern University star isn’t one to quit. After all, he knows that he can rise above adversities and march on.

And that could be seen with how he’s been playing for San Miguel. In the two games he has played in Bacolor, the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup Finals MVP has normed 22.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists.

“Kailangan ko lang maging matatag tsaka kailangan mas maging masipag ako ‘pag may ganung pangyayari para ma-overcome ko,” he said.

“Alam ko naman na kapag na-overcome ko ‘yun, kaya ko magtuloy-tuloy sa awa at tulong ng Diyos.”
