Tai Bundit to miss Pocari Sweat’s V-League campaign

Volleyball fans won’t have the opportunity to see Alyssa Valdez face his mentor Tai Bundit for the Shakey’s V-League’s Open Conference.

Current Ateneo head coach Tai Bundit was named as the head coach of the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors last May 5.

“Tai is a very good friend. He generously volunteered to coach my team for FREE. When given an opportunity to have one of the best coaches in South East Asia to coach your team for free, there is only one answer: Hell yeah when do you wanna start. To be honest, I think he saw blue and white and thought it was Ateneo,” Pocari Sweat team manager Eric Ty said about the hiring.

However, according to team assistant coach Rommel Abella, Bundit might not be able to coach the Lady Slammers in their Open Conference campaign as the mentor is in Thailand to attend to personal matters.

“I don’t think makakaabot siya for this tournament. Kung meron man, one or two games lang siya makakapunta,” Abella said.

Abella disclosed that the UAAP champion coach will return to the country on June 17 or 18. “Three or four days lang siya dito kaya hindi ko alam kung makaka-coach pa siya this tournament,” he added.

If ever Bundit gets to coach during those four days, the only game Pocari Sweat has during that span is on Saturday, June 18 against Iriga City. The Lady Warriors-Bali Pure Purest Water Defenders tilt is scheduled a week after, June 25.

Prior to leaving, Bundit gave his team a simple message. “Sabi lang sa amin ni coach Tai ay ayusin yung service reception and conditioning,” Abella closed.
