Tabogon rallies past Dumaguete to gain solo fourth in VisMin

ALCANTARA— Tabogon overcame a slow start with a blistering second half performance that proved enough to defeat Dumaguete, 86-78, in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, Saturday night at the Civic Center here in Southern Cebu.

The Voyagers trailed by 12 late in the second stanza but turned things around in the second half.

Tabogon took control of the game late in the third with an 11-5 burst sparked by Peter De Ocampo and Joemari Lacastesantos’ outside sniping that helped them snatch a 60-55 lead heading to the last period of action.

Lacastesantos had a huge game with 18 points, six rebounds, and nine assists. He also made a long two that beat the shot clock buzzer that gave Tabogon a 10-point lead, 78-68, with just 2:05 left in the match.

Tabogon gained solo fourth in the standings with an even 2-2 slate while Dumaguete, which just won their first game of the season on Friday, got pulled back down to earth and dropped to 1-3.

Peter De Ocampo also helped the Voyagers’ cause as he scored 15 points while Normel Delos Reyes chipped in 14 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Big man Arvie Bringas added 11 points, four boards, and three assists.

Ronald Roy had 21 points, four rebounds, and four assists for Dumaguete while Jaybie Mantilla finished with 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

Tabogon will have a tough task in their next outing as it takes on MJAS-Talisay (4-0) on Tuesday at 4:00PM. Dumaguete, on the other hand, squares off against KCS-Mandaue (2-1) on Wednesday at 4:00PM.
