Tab Baldwin appointed as program director of Gilas Youth

Tab Baldwin is now back within Gilas Pilipinas’ realms.

Formerly the head coach of the men’s team, Baldwin will be returning to the national program, but in a different capacity. He has been appointed as the program head of Gilas Pilipinas Youth.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio himself announced it on Wednesday evening, during the unveiling of new logos for both the SBP and the Gilas program.

“We will appoint Tab Baldwin as the program director for Gilas Pilipinas Youth,” said Panlilio.

Baldwin last served as Gilas’ chief tactician in the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Manila.

Still, Panlilio made it clear that Sandy Arespacochaga remains the youth team’s head coach.

Baldwin’s appointment is just one among the changes that the federation has made. Panlilio said that the SBP has undergone a major restructuring to lessen confusion among people.

Aside from Baldwin, Panlilio announced several other people who have been assigned to each of the SBP’s pillars.

Gilas head coach Yeng Guiao will also be the program head of the men’s team, while long-time women’s coach Patrick Aquino will oversee the whole program of the women’s team.

Ronnie Magsanoc will handle the 3×3 program.

Decorated mentor Jong Uichico will be the director of the SBP Academy -Coaches and Tournaments. Meanwhile, Atty. Rebo Saguisag will be heading SBP Academy – Referees & Table Officials.

Panlilio also bared that all the national teams – from the Men’s Team all the way to the 3×3 – will carry the Gilas brand.

The women’s team, from Perlas Pilipinas, will now be called Gilas Pilipinas Women’s; the youth team will now be known as Gilas Pilipinas Youth from Batang Gilas; and the 3×3 will be Gilas Pilipinas 3×3.
