Subido to sit out Season 80

Incoming University of Santo Tomas senior Renzo Subido has announced that he will sit out the Growling Tigers’ UAAP Season 80 campaign.

In a statement he released on his Instagram, the 21-year-old said that after reflecting on his first three years, he has come to the conclusion that he needs to improve.

“After much reflection, I have decided to sit out this year of college basketball,” the 5-foot-9 floor general said.

“I have spent the last few weeks reassessing my performance during my first three years in the UAAP and I’ve arrived to the conclusion that I am not satisfied with how I’ve played.”

A highly-touted prospect out of De La Salle-Zobel back in 2014, Subido posted norms of just 3.7 points on 29.1 percent shooting to go along with 1.1 assists in his first three years in the UAAP.

In order to strengthen himself, he has decided that joining the PBA D-League will help him improve — the same route that University of the Philippines great Jett Manuel went through back in 2013.

“I want to dedicate the next months finding ways to improve my skills through the PBA D-League in order to return a stronger and better player,” Subido added, as he is set to join the AMA Online Education Titans for the Foundation Cup.

The UST Growling Tigers are set to make their 2017 Filoil Flying V Premier Cup debut on Friday, May 5, against the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles.
