Brian Goorjian is returning to the Philippines.
This time around, the Australia Boomers head coach will serve as a consultant for Strong Group Athletics when it competes in the 33rd Dubai International Basketball Championship.
The tournament will take place from January 19 to 28, 2024, at Al Nasr Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Goorjian, who recently led the defunct EASL team Bay Area to the 2022-23 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals, brings a wealth of coaching acumen and experience to the team.
Strong Group owner Frank Lao hopes that Goorjian can not only steer his team to new heights but also help in developing basketball in the country, stating, “I am truly excited to announce the addition of Brian Goorjian as our esteemed team consultant for the Dubai International Basketball Championship. With his unparalleled coaching acumen and a wealth of experience, Brian brings an invaluable perspective to all of us.”
SGA also announced the addition of two more imports to the team.
Andre Roberson and McKenzie Moore will join Dwight Howard and Andray Blatche in the tournament that brings the Middle East’s top teams together.
Roberson, an eight-year NBA professional primarily associated with the Oklahoma City Thunder, is set to be the designated defensive stopper for the team.
Standing at 6-foot-7, the 32-year-old product of the University of Colorado is expected to play a crucial role against formidable opponents from the Middle East.
Tiu expressed his confidence in Roberson, stating, “Andre Roberson is known to be a workhorse and lock-down defender. I believe he can contribute offensively at this level, and his great team-oriented attitude will make him an excellent fit.”
McKenzie Moore, a mainstay in Tiu’s teams, adds further depth and experience to the roster.
