Sports Vision chairman Martlino, 86, passes away

Philippine sports lost one of its pillars on Wednesday.

Mauricio ‘Moying’ Martelino (March 21, 1935-September 22, 2021) passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning.

He was 86.

After being the secretary-general of Philippine Bowling, Martelino was the finance officer and, later on, secretary-general of the SBP’s predecessor Basketball Association of the Philippines.

Martelino was also the executive director of the 1978 FIBA World Championship.

During the 90s, Martelino was the secretary-general of the Asian Basketball Confederation.

For his work in basketball, the International Basketball Federation gave Martelino an Order of Merit award back in 1999. He is just one of six officials from FIBA Asia to receive the award.

In the early 2000s, Martelino would be one of the founders of Sports Vision Management Group Inc. – the company behind the Premier Volleyball League.

The Ateneo product then served as lead consultant for the SBP in the 2010s. His group helped organize numerous FIBA events in the country.
