SBP, ASP mourn passing Martelino’s passing: ‘We lost a pioneer’

Mourning has been Philippine sports after the passing of former Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas senior consultant Mauricio “Moying” Martelino.

Martelino was the secretary-general of the SBP’s predecessor Basketball Association of the Philippines, and the secretary-general of the Asian Basketball Confederation.

With his vast knowledge, the Ateneo product helped the SBP in its transition during the late 2000s.

“For a decade, Mauricio “Moying” Martelino served the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas as our senior consultant,” said SBP president Al Panlilio.

“With his vast knowledge and international experience, he was a true elder statesman whose contributions were always appreciated.”

Through Martelino’s Sports Vision Management Group Inc., the country has been successful in hosting FIBA events in the country.

Last February, the SBP honored Martelino for his nine years of service as a senior consultant.

For Panlilio, the imprint left by Martelino – also a patron of Philippine volleyball and bowling – will forever live on.

“The Philippine basketball community has lost a true pioneer but his imprint in our sport is indelible. His invaluable insights and wisdom will be missed,” expressed Panlilio.

“The SBP extends our deepest condolences to the Martelino family.”
