In a battle of debuting teams, Xentromall-Emilio Aguinaldo College had to dig deep to complete the sweep over Alpha Omega, with scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-23 on Friday in the 2023 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference at the Paco Arena in Manila.
The Generals established an early 9-3 lead in the final frame, but through the efforts of Anfernee Curamen, MJ Fortuna, and Kim Tan, the Elite Spikers made a comeback.
With Xentromall-EAC at match point, 24-21, Tan delivered back-to-back kills to narrow the gap to just one point, but Ruther Abor countered with a crosscourt kill to secure the victory in one hour and 26 minutes.
“Maganda naman kahit papaano medyo lumabas yung inensayo namin, asahan ko naman na magiging maganda dahil may mga alumni tayo na naglalaro kaya naga-guide yung mga bata,” said Generals head coach Rod Palmero regarding their composure in the third set.
Abor led EAC with 14 points, including 12 attacks and two blocks, along with six excellent digs, while Marvin Romero provided crucial support with 12 points and eight digs. Israel Encina contributed nine points, and Juvie Mangaring added seven points with seven excellent receptions.
On the other side, Alpha Omega was led by Tan with 10 points, six receptions, and five digs. Fortuna, despite coming off the bench, also contributed eight points, including three blocks.
EAC will next face the veteran-laden PGJC Navy on November 5, while Alpha Omega seeks its first win against Savouge RTU Basilan on November 3.
