Spikers Turf: Iloilo wallops young NU for share of lead

Iloilo sustained its fine start, sweeping National University-Archipelago Builders, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21 to claim its second consecutive win in the 2023 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, Sunday at the Paco Arena.

Jade Disquitado fired 16 points on 14 attacks, a block, and an ace for the D’Navigators while Deanne De Pedro and Jerome Cordez added nine apiece to help their side tie Imus-Ivy Tuason Photography at the top with identical 2-0 standings.

“Una sa lahat happy kami kasi two straight wins so sabi ko sa mga players ko basta stick lang kami sa game plan namin,” said Iloilo head coach John Kenneth Panes.

John Michael Apolinario also showed up for Iloilo, tossing 22 excellent sets to steer the D’Navigators’ offense.

Mac Arvin Bandola led the Volley Builders with eight points while Jan Abanilla, Rwenzmel Taguibolos, and Joseph Bello chipped in six points each in their second straight loss.

“So nireview naman namin yung laro nila (NU) kaya sabi ko gawin lang namin yung ginawa namin sa training, kung ano yung pinaghandaan namin,” he added.

Iloilo will go up against VNS on Sunday, at 3:00 PM while NU will face Philippine Air Force later that day at 5:30 PM.
