Iloilo left it all on the court to end its Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference campaign on a high note, beating short-handed Ateneo-Fudgee Barr, 25-17, 25-15, 25-19 at the Paco Arena in Manila, Sunday.
The D’Navigators ended with a 2-3 record in Pool A. They also dragged the Blue Eagles out of contention, pushing them down to 1-3.
“Alam naman namin na kahit na whatever the result is, hindi talaga kami makakapasok sa top two because of unfortunate results sa last games. Siguro yun yung naging advantage, nag-enjoy kami at there was no pressure,” said Iloilo coach Joshua Sabitchana.
All 14 players were fielded by Sabitchana with only three failing to enter the scoring column.
Kyle Villamor led the D’Navigators with 13 points while Giles Torres added nine points to his name.
Jetlee Gopio top-scored for the Blue Eagles with 12 points including three blocks, while Kennedy Batas delivered 11 points.
Ateneo, which will close its run against Perpetual-Kinto Tyres on Friday, missed the services of top hitters Jian Salarzon and Amil Pacinio, who are representing the school in the ongoing UAAP beach volleyball tournament.
