Spikers Turf: Curamen shines as Alpha Omega scores breakthrough, dumps Bayleaf-LPU

Alpha Omega bounced back from its consecutive losses after sweeping The Bayleaf Hotels-LPU, 25-22, 25-21, 19-25, 25-18, in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference at the Paco Arena, Sunday afternoon.

The Elite Spikers bounced back from their third-set loss to finally bag their first victory in Group D.

That hiked their standing to 1-2 and kept them in the running for the top two spots.

“Masaya naman ako sa pinakita ng mga bata pero nag-rerelax sila pag lamang. Nakuha na namin yung first two sets pero nakita naman natin yung nangyari nung third set, ‘di ba? Kayang kaya naman then suddenly nag-relax,” said Alpha Omega head coach Edjet Mabbayad.

Three consecutive hits from Anfernee Curamen allowed Alpha Omega to pull away in the fourth set and lead by as much as 11 points, 19-8.

The Elite Spikers never looked back from there as they ended the game after an hour and 47 minutes.

Anfernee Curamen took charge for the Elite Spikers with 13 points on 11 attacks and two blocks. Meanwhile, team captain Kim Tan chimed in with 12 points to go along with 12 excellent receptions in the win.

“During crucial times kailangan iwas errors kasi may mga unforced errors na ‘di naman talaga kailangan. Yung mga unnecessary errors na mga net touch, yung mga chance ball na bumabagsak sa amin,” added Mabbayad.

On the other hand, Jun Edang once again led the 0-3 Pirates with 14 points on 11 attacks and three blocks.

Earl Polis had 12 points on nine attacks, two aces, and one block.
