The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas continues its revamp of its national team program.
According to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation, Josh Reyes has been relieved of his post as head coach of the Batang Gilas program.
There is no replacement yet for the vacant position, Tiebreaker Times’ sources added.
Josh, son of decorated head coach and former Gilas Pilipinas mentor Chot Reyes, was added to then-head coach Mike Oliver’s staff during the campaigns of the youth team back in the FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship and the FIBA Under-17 World Cup early this year.
Reyes was then elevated to head coach of the team during the 2018 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship.
Under the young mentor, Batang Gilas finished in fourth place in the Asian Championship to end the country’s 40-year appearance drought in the Under-19 World Cup.
Currently, Batang Gilas is about to begin its preparations for the U-19 World Cup that will take place in Heraklion, Greece from June 29 to July 7 next year and the 2019 Under-16 Asian Championship.
Last month, Reyes and the majority of the TNT Katropa’s staff were let go as well.
