The winningest head coach in leagues outside the Philippine Basketball Association is set to lead one of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s long-suffering programs.
Jerson Cabiltes is set to be named the head coach of Emilio Aguinaldo College.
Multiple sources closely monitoring the situation told Tiebreaker Times that Cabiltes would be introduced to the team during the team’s practice at EAC Gym on Thursday morning.
Cabiltes will take over the post left by Oliver Bunyi, who resigned from his post after NCAA Season 98.
In three seasons with the Generals, Bunyi accumulated a win-loss record of 10-35.
Now, Cabiltes has the task of rebuilding the Generals — a team that has never made the NCAA Final Four since joining the league back in NCAA Season 85.
Cabiltes is as decorated as they come, winning numerous championships since 2019.
The De La Salle University alumnus steered BRT Sumisip Basilan-St Clare to the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup title.
The work never stopped for Cabiltes during the pandemic.
He guided Basilan to the top of the VisMin Super Cup, AICC Manila to the pinnacle of Filbasket, and guided both Basilan and Nueva Ecija to MPBL crowns.
Now, Cabiltes will look to end the misery of EAC in the NCAA.
Tiebreaker Times reached out to Cabiltes and officials of EAC but have yet to respond regarding the matter as of posting.
