In the midst of the on-going investigation of the alleged ‘Bicol bubble’, University of Santo Tomas’ Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) director Fr. Jannel Abogado, OP has stepped down from his post.
According to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation, Fr. Abogado’s resignation was submitted and accepted last Tuesday.
Abogado, who was named as IPEA’s director back in July of 2017, was caught in the middle of the Bicol bubblegate.
Last Sunday, the alleged waiver signed by the parents that allowed the Growling Tigers to go to Sorsogon surfaced via Philippine Star’s Abac Cordero. It was addressed to Fr. Abogado.
It was also on Sunday when UST began its probe on the alleged training of the Growling Tigers.
The copies of the waivers did not have a receiving stamp on them, though.
The UST Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) has nothing to do with the so-called Sorsogon “bubble” if such letter and waiver do exist… But it won’t mean as well the school was unaware of the said exercise. Under his watch, the youthful priest guided the school to six UAAP general championships — three in the high school division and three in the collegiate scene.
Returning to IPEA is Fr. Fr. Ermito De Sagon, OP, who served as director of IPEA from 2000 to 2017.
It was under De Sagon’s watch that the school’s physical education and athletics department became an institute.
