YOKKAICHI, Japan — The Alas Pilipinas pair of Sofiah Pagara and Khy Progella fell short of reaching the gold medal match after a tough 23-21, 21-8 loss to Thailand in the semifinals of the women’s beach volleyball event of the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 on Thursday at Hekinan Ryokuchi Beach Court here.
Pagara and Progella could not overcome Thailand’s Kongphopsarutawadee Worapeerachayakorn and Taravadee Naraphornrapat, who secured their spot in the gold medal match with the straight-set victory.
Coming off a huge upset of Japan’s top-seeded sisters Ren and Non Matsumoto in the quarterfinals, Pagara and Progella were unable to carry the same momentum into their semifinal clash against the Thai pair.
Worapeerachayakorn and Naraphornrapat continued to be a thorn in the Philippines’ side after also eliminating Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Pagara and Progella will have another chance to secure a medal when they play in the third-place match on Friday.
