Slaughter takes Pogoy’s place in Gilas SEA Games team

Greg Slaughter will be filling the void left by the injured Roger Pogoy in Gilas Pilipinas’ 12-man lineup for the 30th Southeast Asian Games, ESPN5 reported on Monday evening.

National team head coach Tim Cone made the announcement moments after Gilas’ practice.

Slaughter is coming off a thumb injury that forced him to sit out for two weeks. He missed not just Gilas practices, but also Ginebra’s games in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.

The seven-foot slotman, though, returned to action last November 24 in the Gin Kings’ quarterfinal clash with San Miguel Beer. Cone then hinted at possible tweaks in the lineup.

The possibility of Slaughter cracking the lineup rose when Pogoy was ruled out of the regional biennial meet after being diagnosed with a bulging disc on his back.

Pogoy suffered the injury during the TNT KaTropa’s quarters clash with the Magnolia Hotshots last November 26.

Slaughter’s inclusion will also be announced during the SEAG Managers’ Meeting on December 3, the report said.

Slaughter will now join LA Tenorio, Stanley Pringle, Japeth Aguilar, June Mar Fajardo, Marcio Lassiter, Chris Ross, Vic Manuel, Christian Standhardinger, Troy Rosario, Matt Wright, and Kiefer Ravena.

The Filipino dribblers will make their debut against Singapore on Wednesday, December 4, at Mall of Asia Arena.
