Sisi Rondina, Petron stomp PLDT to stretch win streak to seven

Sisi Rondina and the Petron Blaze Spikers romped the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters in straight sets, 25-19, 25-15, 25-9, in the 2019 PSL All-Filipino Conference, Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

“Happy kami kahit papaano kasi unti-unti na naming naipapakita yung laro ng team. Hopefully, mas magtuloy-tuloy pa kasi intense na rin yung mga games. Malapit na yung quarterfinals,” Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos said.

The Blaze Spiker have fortified their grip of the second spot with a 9-1 slate. Moreover, they have now extended their winning streak to seven.

“Sobrang laki [nitong winning streak] kasi galing din kami sa hindi magandang start noong ilang games namin. Ngayon medyo malaking tulong sa amin ‘to kasi yun din naman yung goal namin; kasi kailangan maibalik at madagdagan pa namin yung laro namin,” Delos Santos added.

Rondina usually provides the spark off the bench, but this time played as a starter for Petron. She finished with a game-high 12 points laced with 20 excellent digs.

With a win in sight in the third set, the Blaze Spikers showcased both their offense and defense as they mounted a comfortable 11-point cushion, 16-5. They then belted a 7-3 stampede and never looked back.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas supplied 10 points spiked by two blocks, while Rem Palma and Mika Reyes contributed nine markers apiece.

Ces Molina, who provided two of her team’s six blocks, had eight points on top of 12 excellent digs. Rhea Dimaculangan dished out 18 excellent sets.

Meanwhile, no Power Hitter graced twin-digit territory. Aiko Urdas tallied eight points for PLDT, which dropped to 3-7 at the seventh seed.

Setter Jasmine Nabor supplemented 13 excellent sets to go along with six points. Gretchel Soltones was limited to three points, but made her presence felt on defense with 24 excellent digs and 19 excellent receptions.

Petron seeks to stretch their streak when they face the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo. On the other hand, PLDT look to return to the win column when they take on the Marinerang Pilipina on August 3, Saturday at the Caloocan Sport Complex.
